For my undergraduate studies, I completed an integrated master’s programme at the University of Aberdeen. During this, I spend a year in the group of Martin Beck at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg after which I returned to Aberdeen to work on my final research project in regenerative Medicine. Max’s lab was a natural fit for my subsequent PhD. He enabled me to craft a project around my personal interest in the topic of attention. I established behavioural paradigms to study this phenomenon in the lab while simultaneously recording large populations of neurons. This then allowed me to focus on the statistics and underlying computations of attention.
