Ece Sönmez

I am from Turkey, where I studied Molecular Biology and Genetics at Boğaziçi University. During my undergraduate studies, I spent three years in Dr. Arzu Çelik’s lab, as an undergraduate student, and also spent two summers in Houston and Lyon as a summer intern. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I moved from the easternmost Europe to its westernmost point, where I worked at the Champalimaud Foundation in Portugal for three years. In May 2021, I joined the Jösch Group at ISTA as a PhD student.
For my PhD project, I am interested in unraveling the different roles of the Lobula Plate Tangential Cells (LPTCs) that respond to optic flow generated by the animal’s rotation in different axes.
